As law students there are always more things clamoring for your time than you can possibly do. If you’re looking for something worthwhile, you may want to consider applying to become part of our local Inn of Court. The American Inns of Court program brings together judges, attorneys, and law students on a monthly basis to eat together and to learn from one another. This is a wonderful opportunity for law students to get to know attorneys and judges and to listen to them discuss how they practice law.
Last night, for example, our local Inn met at the Utah State Capitol where we learned about the Utah legislative process from many of those that are intimately involved. It was a fascinating discussion and I personally learned a lot.
Our Inn, the A. Sherman Christensen Inn of Court I, has a special history–it was the first Inn in the country. Dallin Oaks, Rex Lee, and A. Sherman Christensen started it under the direction of Chief Justice Warren Burger. The American Inns of Court movement has spread across the country and we’re proud to have been the first Inn.
