In an article in the most recent issue of the Utah Bar Journal, Utah attorney Isaac Paxman details the history of the American Inns of Court. Much of the history is based on a presentation Elder Dallin H. Oaks made to our local Inn early this year. Elder Oaks was involved in the founding of the Inns of Court movement that began in Provo at the behest of Chief Justice Warren E. Burger. Paxman also details his experience visiting the British Inns, which were the model on which the American Inns of Court movement was based.
Students at BYU Law School have an opportunity to participate in the local Inn of Court each year. It’s a great opportunity for students to rub shoulders with local attorneys and judges and learn from their wisdom and experience. Applications to participate are solicited each spring for membership during the following academic year.
