If you have written a paper related to legal history, or are writing a paper this semester, consider submitting it to the 12th annual Morris L. Cohen Student Essay Competition! The Legal History and Rare Books Section of the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) hosts this annual competition in honor of the late Morris L. Cohen, a noted law librarian and expert in historical legal research. He wrote classic book on historical legal research, The Yale Law School Guide to Research in American Legal History.
The submission deadline is May 16, 2022, so you have lots of time to enter even if you are working on a paper this semester or you want to wrap up finals before you think about anything extra. Papers need to be between 5,000 and 10,000 words excluding footnotes, roughly 20-30 double-spaced pages. The paper must not have been previously published or submitted for publication. The winner will receive $500, will present that paper at a webinar sponsored by the Legal History and Rare Books Section of AALL, and may be published in the online scholarly journal Unbound: A Review of Legal History and Rare Books.
