The American Inns of Court is a wonderful organization that allows students to rub shoulders with and learn from practicing attorneys and judges. Law students interested in litigation should seriously consider applying to be a student member of next year’s Inn. An informational session for 1Ls and 2Ls will be held on Thursday, March 22 at noon in room 306. Justice Thomas R. Lee of the Utah Supreme Court and member of the Inn will lead the session.
BYU has a special tie to the American Inns of Court. Chief Justice Warren Burger asked Dean Rex Lee and President Dallin Oaks to form the first Inn of Court. After its initial success here, the Inns of Court program spread throughout the country. Our Inn, the A. Sherman Christensen Inn of Court I, is still recognized as the first Inn in the country.
In addition to Thursday’s informational meeting with Justice Lee, we invite prospective applicants to attend the Inn’s final meeting of the year to see what it’s like. That meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 27 at 6:30pm in the Moot Court Room. Because dinner will be served we encourage you to RSVP to Shawn Nevers (neverss@law.byu.edu) to aid the Inn in providing the right amount of food.
This is a wonderful opportunity that I hope you will consider.
