Everyone knows about the Library of Congress, but did you know there is a Law…
On April 24 Utah Congressman Jason Chaffetz introduced a bill to the House of Representatives (H.R. 4484) that would enact the `Y Mountain Access Enhancement Act’. Under this law the federal government would convey a portion of the Y mountain trail to BYU for fair market value. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that BYU would like to provide better maintenance of the trail than is currently provided by the forest service. Senator Orrin Hatch along with Senator Mike Lee have introduced a similar bill in the Senate (S. 2471).
Thomas, the Library of Congress’s legislative website, is a great place for free access to federal bills. In addition to seeing bill text, researchers can keep track of bills and their progress throughout the legislative process by checking the bills’ Summary and Status. Checking the Summary and Status reports for H.R. 4484 and S. 2471 we find that the House bill is currently in the Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands and the Senate bill is in the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources.
