If you’re looking for statistics from the United States the Statistical Abstract has always been a great place to go.  Since 1878 the Statistical Abstract was published annually by the government and contained a variety of social, political, and economic data.  If you needed to find out the number of marriages, or unemployment by occupation, or even household pet ownership the Statistical Abstract was the place to go.

Recently the government announced it would no longer be publishing the Statistical Abstract.  Shortly thereafter, Proquest announced that it would continue the Statistical Abstract as a commercial product.  They produced a print version and they have also produced an electronic version that we have access to.  The electronic version is very similar to the print version, but will allow users to search, as well as have remote access.
