Since many of our students were undergraduates at BYU I thought I'd pass along this…
We are happy to introduce Shawn Nevers as the new director of the BYU Howard W. Hunter Law Library! Shawn is a graduate of the Law School Class of ’05 where he served as a member of the Law Review staff and as a library reference assistant. After graduating from law school, he obtained a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science (MSIS) from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He then returned to the BYU Law Library as a Research Librarian, then served as Head of Reference & Legal Research Instruction, before becoming Deputy Director of the Law Library, his most recent position. Director Nevers is a renowned legal information scholar with expertise in the United States Code. His most recent publication, The Shadow Code: Statutory Notes in the United States Code, coauthored with Julie Graves Krishnaswami, won the prestigious Law Library Journal Article of the Year Award in 2021. But most importantly, he loves baseball.
Director Nevers took over in May 2023 when Director Kory Staheli stepped down after 18 years of devoted service to the Law Library. Kory Staheli graduated from BYU Law School in 1987, after which he worked in private practice for several years. Later he obtained a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science (MSIS) from BYU and worked in various positions at the BYU Law Library and as the first Assistant Director of the Wiener-Rogers Law Library at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, where he helped establish that institution from its founding. Professor Staheli will continue to work at the BYU Law Library as a Senior Librarian and Professor of Legal Research.
