Many law school classes require a research paper instead of a final exam this semester.…
Legal writing is an area where law students and lawyers can always improve. After my first year of law school I had the opportunity to extern for Justice Matthew Durrant at the Utah Supreme Court. Before beginning work, I spoke with Justice Durrant about what I could do to prepare myself for my externship. His advice was to reread Strunk and White’s The Elements of Style. I did and I learned a lot I probably should already have known.
In that vein, The Blog of Legal Times is reporting that The Scribes Journal of Legal Writing has published the full transcripts of Bryan Garner’s interviews with eight Supreme Court Justices regarding legal writing and advocacy. This may be valuable to students wanting some writing tips. It’s interesting to hear the perspective of those that read a lot of legal writing.
