Lexis Advance Enhancements

A couple of weeks ago, Lexis released some changes to Lexis Advance.  I wanted to run through a couple of them that I thought might be useful to you.  The first is the ability to select a source from the search bar.  When Lexis Advance was first released, there was no good way to select [...]

Westlaw or Lexis?

One of the questions students frequently ask me is whether they should use Westlaw or Lexis.  My answer is the always frustrating “both.”  Why?  The fact is that you simply don’t have much control over which you’ll be using in practice, so you should get to know both systems in law school.  It’s true that [...]

No Westlaw Printers

As summer comes to an end it’s time for us to get you caught back up on what you missed while you’ve been away.  One of the things we announced early on in the summer is that Westlaw has discontinued its student printing program and has removed all of its printers from the law school.  [...]

Farewell Westlaw Printers

As we’ve mentioned before, Westlaw has decided to discontinue student printing and remove its Westlaw printers from the law school.  While we do not yet have a specific date for their removal, it will be sometime shortly after June 30.  So, that means this week is likely our last with the Westlaw printers.  As you [...]

Lexis.com Passwords Deactivated

Since Lexis Advance debuted, Lexis users have had separate passwords for Lexis.com and Lexis Advance–which has been a pain.  In order to move to a one-password system, Lexis deactivated all Lexis.com passwords last weekend.  Access to Lexis Advance and Lexis.com will now be available only through a user’s Lexis Advance ID and password. If you’ve [...]

Finding Treatises on Lexis Advance

As students head out to work this summer we see fewer and fewer around the library.  But, that doesn’t mean we’re not busy helping with research.  In fact, as students start getting research assignments from their firms or other employers we start getting a lot of phone calls, emails and chats asking for help.  We’re [...]

Westlaw Printers

As we announced earlier this school year, Westlaw will be removing its printers this summer.  We’re still figuring out an exact date, but it will be around June 30.  We wanted to give you a heads up now so that you can plan for the next few months while we still have the printers and [...]

Lexis/Westlaw/Bloomberg Summer Access

The last legal research classes of the semester will be held today.  While that’s likely welcome news for many, it means that the next research you’ll do is for your jobs and externships this summer.  Here is some information on the access you’ll have to the major legal databases. Lexis Advance – Lexis recently announced that [...]

Lexis Advance This Summer

Lexis has just announced that law students will have unlimited access to Lexis Advance this summer.  That means you can use Lexis Advance for any type of legal work you will be doing this summer.  Previously Lexis has always had restrictions on summer access (as Westlaw to this point still does) on using their product [...]

Lexis Advance

By now most of our students should be aware of Lexis Advance, Lexis’s newest iteration and competitor to WestlawNext.  In an attempt to get students to be more familiar with Lexis Advance, Lexis does not require students to do anything to extend their Lexis Advance passwords during the summer.  If there are certain materials needed [...]
